I agree, a good set of quality filters will pay for themselves in no time both in the field and by cutting down on a lot of additional post production Photoshop work afterwards.

Yes, probably using a combination of cheaper filters would create this discoloration effect as the "error per filter" is being added by the number of filters being used at the same time.

Great post and tons of helpful info. I agree with you that the most important filters in my bag, behind my UV filters, are the polarizers and then the grduated ND filters.

I've been using polarizers on my lenses for the past 20 years. I buy one for every lens size I have and use it regularly. This is may favorite filter of all of my over 20 filters.

We bought a few cheap ND filters because we wanted to keep our shutter slow and we wouldn't have to switch over to high speed sync with our flashes. The filter did allow us to keep slower shutter speeds, but we had a problem with the images looking orange when we used the filters. Was it maybe just the fact that we got cheap ND filters or is discoloration a problem with all ND filters?

I'm technologically illiterate, but never ceases to amaze me the constant innovation of the technology in Canon. I enjoyed reading posts about Canon best price, accessories. I have one and I love it!

Great article and great videos. I never gave much attention to the camera lens filters. But after watching the video, I will definitely give it the attention it deserves.

I didn't know that filters are so important for improving the color, contrast, intensity and the sharpness of a picture. I bought recently a Nikon D7000 and I don't know which kind of filter would be the most suitable. Could you recommend me one? I'd be very grateful.
